Parkside & Tithe Farm Christmas Parade - Santa Claus is Coming to Town !

Santa Claus is coming to town !

On Sunday 20th December, the Santa Crew will be parading from the Polar Bear house in Chelsea Gardens to Bromley Gardens, then up to Go Houghton, and back to base via the Baptist Church.

On Wednesday 23rd December, the Crew will be meeting at the Hillsborough Shops going through Tithe Farm Road to Bedford Square and then back via Sundon Road.

The start time on both days will be 6pm, and donations will be collected for the Houghton Regis Town Mayor's Charities.

Santa will be pushing his big loud music trolley, blasting out carols and Chrimbo music!

Please, do come along and sing and dance with us as we make our way around our hometown. If you want to bring some small sweet treats for the kids please do so.

Ian Laken wrote on his Facebook Page, "It's mostly a fun idea for the grown ups to get dressed up and walk the estate singing carols and handing out sweets to the kids. Everyone is welcome to join in so just come along with or without the kids and be ready to sing out loud to the Community. I'll be be Santa pushing a make shift musical sleigh so please do bring some sweets or other goodies to go in the cart for everyone to share."

Happy Christmas, Houghton Regis!

Invite to Health and Wellbeing Event for Young People in Center Parcs

Health & Wellbeing Event for Young People Invitation
To
 Center Parcs 2016

Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire are looking for a group of young people to attend a Health & Wellbeing Event on Wednesday 17th February 2016, to be held at Center Parcs, Woburn Forest, in Bedfordshire (half term week). If you know of young people aged 13-18 that live in Central Bedfordshire please forward this email onto them. Please find attached a poster with further details.

The purpose of the event is to engage with as many young people living in Central Bedfordshire as we can; to gather feedback and insight on their experiences of health, social care and wellbeing services and to listen to their aspirations for improving services for younger people. HWCB will be looking to identify methods for continued engagement with young people, to help empower them to speak up and inform the commissioners and providers of services about the support they feel they need. We will also take this opportunity to look at developing a 'Young Healthwatch' designed by young people for young people.

HWCB are inviting a diverse range of younger people from Upper and specialist schools in the area, young carers and young people from various youth groups, to ensure this event will be a positive, fun and interactive day. The event will enable young people between the ages of 13 and 18 to engage with other young people and health professionals, to open the debate about health, social care and wellbeing issues that are important to them and to think about how young people want to work with Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire to improve services and influence change.

This interactive event will include a production from a Theatre Group, working with a Graffiti Artist, participant workshops and a Big Brother Diary Room. The event will begin at 9am for registration and finish at 4pm.

Owing to its unique setting and activities available, the event will be held at the conference centre within Center Parcs, Woburn Forest. Included in the event is a free afternoon activity at the Sub-tropical Swimming Paradise which includes pools, rides and slides. An alternative creative activity will also be made available for those unable to participate.

Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire applied for and secured a Lottery grant to fund this event as we feel it is important that young people are heard and services are improved to help support them.

Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire (HWCB) was established in April 2013 to put the voice of local residents at the heart of health and social care and to play a vital role in gathering the views, and understanding the experiences of, patients and the public. This includes both adults and children. For more information about Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire please visit our website atwww.healthwatch-centralbedfordshire.org.uk

For further information about the event and how you can nominate a young person from your school please find attached a poster and nomination form. Please note there is limited space and nominations will be accepted on afirst come, first served basis.

Christmas Tree Lights Switched On

alanwinter.lu5@gmail.com

Houghton Regis' Christmas Tree was lit up on Saturday 5th December 2015 following a Carol Service at All Saints Parish Church.

As an innovation a few stalls were added to Bedford Square for a "Dickensian Shopping" experience, following the switch on.

Mayor Rob Shimmin, and his wife, Babs switch on the lights. Rob has been a Town Councillor for Houghton Hall Ward since May 2015. Prior to that he was a councillor for Parkside Ward. His charities this year include raising funds for All Saints Parish Church Fund.

The Round Table, with Santa and his Sleigh was at the event to give the children a special early treat.

Cllr Tracey McMahon, never misses an opportunity to promote another event!
